Tastē Tuesday~ This past Sunday I made a baby shower cake for a young lady at our church. The mom doesn't like fondant, so except for the elephant and black stripes, it is all buttercream. This cake was short-notice, so I used supplies I had on hand. The shower was beautiful, and I am eager to meet the little girl who is scheduled to arrive on Wednesday via c-section.

Monday Moments~ Just a quick funny to start off the week! Don't we all have at least one picture from our childhood that makes us wonder either what we were thinking or what our parents were thinking? A haircut gone awry, following the fashion of the day just a little too well...it is hidden in some old photo album somewhere, don't deny it. I must admit that I subject my children to a certain amount of things to suit my whims or fancies though I try to keep it at an extreme minimum. Being a mother of 3 boys, they tend to help their own cause in that respect. At times I marvel at what mommies do to their children, good-hearted I'm sure, and laugh knowing the comments these actions will elicit from their children once they reach their twenties! I stumbled across this picture; I don't recall how. Though the little guy looks as though he is having fun, a couple thoughts ran across my mind. A) some mom (or dad) was desperate crazy for a picture...she got it! And B) who has time to make watermelon armor and then bathe the child wearing watermelon armor all in one afternoon? Though cutting up fruit for clothing purposes (and the thought of actually wearing watermelon underwear) is a bit far fetched for me, I probably don't have much room to judge. A fondness for motorcycles and a knowledge of Pinterest led to the use my own child for photography purposes. Hopefully in both of our cases, these children will someday look back and say, "Awesome picture Mom!"...not with a horrified look on their face. Tastē Tuesday~ It somehow feels like cheating to post another picture and not a recipe, but I am still in recovery mode from the holidays and trying to keep two children from catching the random case of pneumonia that little boy #2 came down with last week. I have a short-notice two-tiered cake due on Sunday (which I am excited about and hopeful turns out awesome), so a picture and a quick decorating lesson for those interested, will have to do for this Tuesday! I was asked to do 60 cupcakes for my little boy #1's school holiday party. Hoping to begin "advertising" in our new hometown, I agreed. I bought some new toys because I always enjoy making snowflakes, and didn't want to use the chocolate molds I already had, and got started in the kitchen. I was pretty happy with how everything turned out when I decorated them on Thursday...until Friday morning when I got up to deliver them to school. The fondant had softened more than I ever had it soften in our old home on the opposite coast, and although they still looked okay, I wasn't disappointed that my audience was two classrooms of second graders. I will say that they could have cared less what they looked like...even the girls...so it turned out that they benefited from some yummy cupcakes, and I learned a bit about fondant decorating on the west coast! Lesson: when using fondant decorations on cupcakes, either decorate the day of the event or add 50% gum paste so as to prevent melting snowflakes. I hope 2016 has gotten off to a fantastic start!
