Tastē Tuesday~ I love little, local coffee shops. I don't get to frequent them very often, but settling into a corner chair with a good book and a steaming vanilla latte is one of my happy thoughts. On our local main street we have such a coffee shop named the Blue Butterfly. Not being from around here, I did not know there was any significance to the name, but a short conversation a few weeks ago educated me. The El Segundo Blue Butterfly lives a few blocks from our house. It has been on the endangered species list since 1976 and appears only in the summer. A few days after my insect education, I found out there would be a bake-off at the local hometown fair and decided to enter a cake. Wanting the cake decoration to be significant but easy and for a small cake, I chose to commemorate the blue butterfly (though my butterflies don't exactly look like the El Segundo blue butterfly). In the class of cakes and pies, judged on appearance, taste, and texture, it won 1st place. Next week....a recipe!

Tastē Tuesday~ This Friday is little boy #2's 4th birthday. It is amazing to see what a little person he is! He currently loves sharks and dinosaurs, and I was happy that he chose a shark cake. We had a small party on Saturday with a couple of his friends and will make sure he feels extra special on Friday when he actually makes the leap from 3 to 4.
