Wednesday Wisdom~ I never knew before having children that I would be prone to call them so many things besides their given names. However, angel, trouble, stinky, lovey... all seem pretty common within the walls of our home. One of the names I use the most is champ or champion. I think I started using this nickname with my first because he truly is a champion, overcoming so many surgeries, pain, and difficulties in his young life. Being conscientious of raising children who understand and learn from failure and don't think they will always be the best of the best or that they are entitled to always being the champion, many times when I call one of the boys "champ," I pause and wonder if I have made a poor choice in nicknames. I might be overthinking things...
Nonetheless, champion, in and of itself, doesn't mean champion of the world in all things all of the time, so I continue to use it and hope that each of my little ones grow up to understand that sometimes they will be champions in the eyes of the world, winning a game or achieving good grades, but at all times they have the opportunity to be champions within, making good choices, maintaining honesty and integrity, doing and resting in the knowledge that they are doing their best.
Each day, we each have the opportunity to be a champion, quietly in our home, office, or within our hearts.
