Although statistics vary according to numerous factors, and have improved in the past decade, the survival rate for HLHS remains around 50% for children between the ages of 7 and 10 years old. Knowing Austin's complicated history to include a brain tumor and rare GI disease makes this birthday even more remarkable, amazing...miraculous. "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort!" 2 Corinthians 1:3
Wednesday Wisdom~ Today is a very special day - little boy #1 turned 10 at 0822 this morning EST. Every birthday is awesome, especially for those kiddos and folks who are under the age of 35ish, but not only is today special, it is a miracle. The hubby and I were told too many times to count or for me to want to remember, that little boy would not live past 3 or 4 months. Ten years wasn't even on the doctors' radar. Yet...ten miraculous years later...he sat in front of us at the dinner table this evening with a huge smile which turned to a shy downward glance as his dad, mom and two little brothers sang him "Happy Birthday." In addition to opening presents, a simple song sung just for him is what he looked forward to the most. It was our incredible pleasure to sing and celebrate him!
