Monday Moments~ 2016 is 3/4 of the way over. At the beginning of the year I challenged myself and you to try at least one new thing this year and promised to check back in. So you might be wondering what the heck a picture of a pineapple has to do with this! It is a mini-pineapple. I came across this at the store a few weeks ago and had never before seen a mini pineapple. Besides being really cute, I was curious to see if a small pineapple tasted any different than a normal pineapple. It doesn't, and with the core and outer skin, it turned out to be a single-serve portion. This was also a case where being little (i.e. unique and cute) meant paying more for less.
Trying a new pineapple was not my 2016 challenge. I have signed up for my first triathlon, and the event is only two weeks away. I have wanted to do a tri for many years and could never quite get all of the components together. I was either biking and running all the time with no access to a pool, or good with swimming and running but not with biking. Being in a great location for triathlons, I figured I needed to just sign up and do it. If you always wait for the perfect timing, you will die waiting....right?! Well, I have swum twice in the past 6 months, biked only a handful of times, and between being sick and my son being in the hospital for two weeks, I barely have ten miles on my running shoes. In hindsight, I should have jumped at the chance to do a tri when I at least had two of the three sports going for myself. So - my goal is not to drown in the ocean, make it to the finish line, cross off triathlon from my bucket list, and hopefully figure out if I am inspired to do another one because in better shape I would love it or just be happy that a bucket list item has been accomplished. Although my personal challenge hasn't turned out quite like I expected it to, I will undoubtedly be physically challenged which I expected, and I will be mentally challenged even more, which I was not planning on. Sometimes when we try something new, we learn a lot more about ourselves than we do about whatever it was that was new! I hope your "new" challenge has not only exposed you to something new but also introduced you to something unexpected.
Hopefully nine months ago you were inspired to try something new this year. If it has been unique, taught you something, or motivated you in some way, I'd love to hear about it!
